With the Warmaster dead, the Imperium spends years hunting the defeated traitors and driving them into the great warp rift that will become their refuge. To make certain no single commander can ever wield such ruinous power again, the surviving Space Marine Legions are broken up into smaller, self-contained brotherhoods of roughly a thousand, following a new code of organisation set down by one of the Emperor's sons.
