For some nine centuries the Imperium is split in two. A breakaway power sets up a rival seat of rule far from Terra and proclaims its own authority, leaving Mankind's realm divided against itself across vast stretches of the galaxy. The schism is eventually mended and largely struck from the official record: one of several times the Imperium very nearly tears itself apart from within.
