In the unsettled years after the great rift opens, the resurgent Imperium is dragged into a grinding war for one of its proudest realms. A fallen son of the Emperor, now a champion of a plague-god, looses pestilence and daemon legions against the heartland his brother once built. The returned regent answers in person, and a long, sickening campaign of attrition follows that neither side can quickly win.
