Tens of millions of years before Mankind, the galaxy's first powers fall to war. An ancient, star-faring elder race is assailed by a dying people who have traded their flesh for undying metal at the bidding of god-like star-entities. To hold the line, the elder masters seed the younger species, among them the ancestors of the Aeldari, across the worlds as living weapons. The struggle ruins the old galaxy; in its aftermath the victors turn upon their own star-gods and sink into a sleep that lasts tens of millions of years.
