++ THE LECTORUM · OPERATING DOCTRINE ++
The Method
Sourced, never invented — and spoiler-aware.
The Lectorum is an unofficial, fan-made archive of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, built for one job: to answer a newcomer's questions truthfully, without inventing lore and without spoiling the stories they haven't reached yet. Every entry follows the same discipline.
Grounded, then rewritten
Nothing here is written from memory. Each faction, character, term and event is researched against public reference material first, then rewritten in original prose — we paraphrase and summarise, we never reproduce another source's text. Where sources agree, an entry is marked canon; where they conflict, it is marked contested rather than pretending to a certainty that isn't there.
Cited
Every record carries its sources — the codex, novel, rulebook or reference it rests on — so a reader can go further and check the claim. That citation line is not decoration; it's the point. An archive that can't show its work isn't an archive.
Spoiler-aware by clearance
Warhammer 40,000 is decades of interlocking story, and the fastest way to ruin it for a newcomer is to answer a simple question with a late-game revelation. So content is tiered. Your "clearance" declares how far into the setting you've already been; anything above it stays redacted until you raise it. You choose how much you want to know.
Where to begin
If you're new, start with the reading & play order — a spoiler-safe on-ramp into Warhammer 40,000 — or open the terminal and just ask.
